Geisha Evenings®
Building Tour & Peformance

Geisha Evenings® in Kanazawa is the popular entertainment evening since 2014, led by the landlady at teahouse Kaikaro, aka Lady Baba. You will surely experience an exquisite evening at Kaikaro - the largest teahouse in Kanazawa.

Since 2014, the event has been a popular evening entertainment in Kanazawa in spring (March, April) and autumn (October and November) at Kaikaro teahouse, which is the largest teahouse in Kanazawa. Lady Baba provides informative, entertaining speeches on the teahouse and Geisha culture entirely in English. The large venue, which is designated as a Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings in Japan, holds 30+ guests with several seating options.

After enjoying the Performance, take a tour through the precious 220-year-old teahouse architecture. The Golden Tea Room is a must-see.

Guests are allowed to take a few casual photos with mobile phones, smartphones, or pocket cameras. However, please do not take photos or record videos during dance performances, or when Lady Baba is speaking.

There is no specific dress code, but please do not dress too casually, such as just a T-shirt and jeans. Showing respect to the venue and to the geisha is appreciated.

To protect the tatami mat flooring, guests are not allowed to enter the venue with bare feet. Please wear socks while you are at Kaikaro teahouse. If you are wearing stockings, please bring socks to wear over them.

Please do not bring large luggage with you.

No outside food or drinks.

Children 6 and under are not allowed at Geisha Evenings®.

FAQ

  • Unfortunately, the answer is no. Geisha performances and their hospitality are usually available exclusively at chaya teahouses, where there is traditionally a strict policy of requiring existing loyal customers to invite any new customers.

Geisha Evenings® events represent a rare opportunity for members of the public to experience geisha hospitality and performances, so we recommend making your reservations well in advance to avoid missing your chance.

  • To show respect to the geisha and the venue, we ask that guests not dress too casually, such as just a T-shirt and jeans.

  • Entering a chaya teahouse venue with bare feet is a major faux pas in Japan. Our venues are usually traditional buildings with tatami mat floors, and stepping on them with bare feet can damage them.

Please make sure to at least bring a pair of socks to wear during the event, and have your socks on when you arrive.

  • Guests are allowed to take a few casual photos and videos, and share them on social media. However, please do not take photos or record videos during dance performances, or when Lady Baba is speaking.
